Shalom, shufen's BP went up to 200 last night after dialysis, as the doctors want to squeeze water out from her. They took out 3500 ml 3 days ago, and another 3800 ml of water yesterday of 4 hrs sessions each. Today, they will be putting in lasix drip to try to remove as much water as possible. Water when not properly managed within the body, becomes dangerous and drives the blood pressure high. (reminds me when Jesus was crucified for my sins, historians say it is scary but true that they are drown by internal water). The EPO (hippo :) drug would have to wait until the BP comes lower.

A few concerned bro and sis-in-Christ are asking if the hospital bill is going to be a bomb after 48 days and counting.  We should be covered by aviva shield insurance of 90%, so i guess the bill should be in the range of 4 figures. We were also blessed by a professor who helped us into the hospital as a B2 class patient due to limited availability of beds.

I analysed through the interim bill, and it is just so important to choose the correct bed type or class during hospital entry due to medical policies. The government subsidies make a whole lot of difference.  The major bulk of the hospital bill is not in the ward charges (which range in hundreds), but in lab investigations/procedures etc (ranges in 5 figures). Becos we came in as a B2 class (6-bedder), the lab investigations say $10K, has been capped to just a few hundred dollars. This is a whopping 80-90% discount!

Through this incident, I am also relooking at some of the family insurance and knowing its importance. With rising medical costs, just one sole major illness in the next 10-20 years, could wipe out all your savings or even bankrupt, if the hospital entry point and choice of hospital bed is not made correctly.

If you are not covered under medical shield insurance (medishield, ntuc incomeshield, aviva myshield etc), pls get one!!! It cost just $100-few hundred per year, cheaper than some of the phones we purchase nowadays. If your elderly parents are not covered, pls at least ensure they have medishield. This is the easiest to apply through www.cpf.gov.sg and does not require any medical check up and medical preconditions. In the unexpected entry into government hospitals, choose the lowest C or B2 class, if unsure. It is possible to upgrade later than downgrade due to hospital policy. The Singapore government is also right in forseeing that this is a big area in financial planning, and is making it easier for us to cover this major loophole through the use of medisave account to buy medical shield insurance. Drop me an email or chat with me, as I am an "expert" now, after analyzing it through and talking to almost 4 insurance agents :)

Through this time period, the situation is forcing me to think through many things, and it helps me have good clarity of mind to understand the medical and financial stuff. For the too chim / infinite future things that is impossible to plan, the Holy Spirit takes over and ensures that we are in the palm of His hands. Hallelujah!  o:-)
